We would like to announce that Louisville Country Dancers will be moving to a new hall as of April 1st, 2015. We are moving to the Highland Community Campus at 1228 E. Breckinridge St. It is located on the corner of Breckinridge and Barret Ave, just three blocks away from Church of the Advent. There is a parking lot adjacent to the building and accessible from Barret Ave with 50 dedicated parking spaces.
Our first dance will be Monday, April 6th with Susan Moffett and the Decaf Zombies!
Finally, as part of our contract with the new hall we will no longer be able to dance on the first Friday of the month. We welcome community discussion regarding what to do to replace it. You can come talk to us at the dances or check out the discussion on our Facebook group.
Ladies and gentlemen, it is my pleasure to announce that the CDSS board will be having their annual meeting in Louisville this year! In honor of that, we’ll be having special dancing and performances throughout the last weekend in January. All the details can be found in the attached flyer and in the Facebook event (no profile necessary to view): https://www.facebook.com/events/1519488561672767/ As a quick note, the flyer has the dates of the Morris dance and Irish Set dance performances flipped. Angleterre will be performing on Friday, and the Irish Set Dancers will be performing on Saturday. Alright, I think that’s it. See you all on the dance floor!
Edit: There seems to be some difficulty getting the flyer uploaded. In the mean time, the Facebook event should have all important information. I’ll try to figure out what’s wrong and get it fixed.
This Saturday, we will be hosting our regular third Saturday Contra dance at the usual place with Turnip the Beet for our band and Bradley Smith for our caller! The dance begins at 8:00 PM after a beginners lesson at 7:30 PM and runs until 11:00 PM. Admission is $8 for over 30s and $5 for under 30s. For any other details that might pop up, see the Facebook event (no account necessary): https://www.facebook.com/events/359555024216979/ See you all on the dance floor!
Tomorrow, we’re going to be having a Techno Contra in place of our regular first Friday dance! Our D.J. will be Louisville local Loren Klingman and our caller will be one of our resident rising stars Josiah Roberts. It is going to be a great time, there will be tons of great music, and it’s a wonderful way to see the folk process at work (evolution of Contra dance and all that). Admission will be a flat $10 since the lighting is a bit more extensive than our usual dances. For any additional details, see the Facebook event (no profile required): https://www.facebook.com/events/881522011866711/ See you all on the dance floor!
Hello everyone, just a quick reminder about a few things. First, Fleur de Lis Fling is THIS weekend, so we will NOT be having our normal third Saturday dance. Instead, we’ll be having a special extend the weekend dance on Monday that’s open to everyone. Our caller will be Gaye Fifer, the band will be Celador, the dance will be from 8:00 PM to 10:30 PM, and the prices will be $5 for under 30s and $8 for over 30s. Ms. Fifer was our caller for last year’s Fling and Celador were our band for one of our first Friday dances back in the Spring. Both are excellent and definitely should not be missed. Also, while the Fling is sold out, there’s always a chance that someone will have to make a last minute ticket sale due to intervening circumstances, and as such anyone who doesn’t have a ticket should keep an eye on our Facebook event page just in case: https://www.facebook.com/events/677338229024368/ On a final note, there is going to be a party at Doug and Angela’s house on Sunday after the final Contra. Everyone’s invited, even if you didn’t make it to the Fling, and Deborah Denenfeld will be leading Irish Set Dancing for all who will while there. It’s great fun, and if you’re looking to experiment with dance forms other than Contra it’s a fantastic place to start. I think that’s everything of note, so I’ll sign off. See you all at Fleur de Lis Fling and/or the Monday dance!
